With perfect precision, an �Ideal� cut diamond must adhere to exact AGS, American Gem Society proportions.  Less than 1% of every diamonds in the world would receive a 000 Grading from AGS.  To start, the diamond must first have what we call perfect "Proportions".  In that the Table (very top of the diamond), the Crown (see below) the girdle (the middle of the diamond), the Pavilion (see below) and the Culet (point of the diamond) must fall within certain angles and percentages. 

Symmetry:

The shaping and placement of facets is crucial to the symmetry of a Diamond in order to yield an exact mirror image of opposite features. A Hearts and Arrows Diamond is possible only when �Ideal� symmetry is presence.  Antoher required aspect is that the culet (point) of the diamond must be perfectly centered.  If not, all of the angles on the bottom of the diamond are going to be off center.  When the light exits the diamond, it will not be dispersed in an even fashion and leakage through the sides and the bottom will result.  THAT IS JUST ONE ISSUE!!  Imagine this combined with other minor elements combined. 

Polish:

A Diamond that has �Ideal� polish will not show polish lines or other surface blemishes under a microscope with 10x magnification.

The AGS diamonds that we sell are the finest that there is, and we take it to the extreme with our super ideal cut diamonds being polished under 100X magnification. It is the combination of an �Ideal� cut, �Ideal� symmetry & �Ideal� polish that makes an AGS 000 Hearts and Arrows diamond so rare & unique. Less than 1% of all diamonds in the world will achieve the distinction of being graded by AGS as a �000�. AGS grades on a number/word basis. �The top grade, �Ideal� is equal to a 0, �Excellent� (almost ideal) a 1, and so on down to 10 (Poor).

Note that there are 8 hearts and 8 arrows, and each and every one of them is uniform and identical to each other. Even if the Diamond is down graded from �Ideal� to �Excellent� this is what will happen.

In this instance, many things can go wrong; hearts can be faded or bent, arrow heads broken or missing or worse.
